CHAPTER 14
LIAM
I hated having meetings on a Friday, especially when it meant that I had to be away from Bella.
But I knew this was an important meeting. I had been contacted by the shareholders of Carmichael Media Ltd. They were extremely unhappy with how their investments were being slashed by the way Felix Carmichael was running the company. He may have only been the managing director, but as his father was so ill, he had full reign on the run of the company, and the decisions he had been making were bad ones. They had offered me their shares so I could buy out the company. A hostile takeover, of course. There were still a couple of shareholders that were considering their investments, but so far I would own thirty-five percent of the company. If the last two decided to sell, that would give me fifty-five percent, and as the major shareholder, I would be able to do whatever I liked.
I had already spoken to my father about the situation this morning, and he agreed that it would be a good addition to the company, gaining us vital players in the business, so I had gone ahead. I would buy the shares from anyone willing to sell, and even if we didnât have a major shareholding, I would still be able to take over the business with the number of shares I held.
But all the way through the meeting, even though I managed to keep it together, I just wanted to get back to Bella. I had decided that even without my motherâs acceptance, I was going to take Bella out to dinner tonight and admit my true feelings to her. I wasnât sure how she felt about me, but the past couple of days since the incident with Nicolette, she had seemed down. If nothing else, I wanted her to have a good time this evening.
If I confessed everything and she didnât reciprocate, then what had I lost? Iâd just make a fool of myself and would have to pick up the pieces. I hoped that wasnât the case, though.
I had just finished my meeting which had gone well and pulled out my phone as I headed back to my car, where Geoffrey was waiting. Looking through my messages I immediately noticed one from Gio entitled Code Red. When I opened it up, my heart sank into my stomach. Mother had taken Bella to lunch.
I almost sprinted to the car, giving Geoffrey absolutely no time to open the door to me. I didnât even say a word when Geoffrey started to drive away.
âLe Petit Café, sir?â
âHow did you know?â
âGiorgio took the liberty of calling me to say Mrs. Llewelyn-Beaumont had taken young Isabella to lunch. We both assumed it would be to your Motherâs favourite restaurant.â
âThank you, Geoffrey.â
Geoffrey continued to drive as I phoned Gio.
âIâm sorry, Liam. I couldnât stop her. You know what Jo is like when she has a bee in her bonnet. She almost pulled poor Isabella out of the door.
